Zena Louise Troese, of Clarion, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 89 years of age.
Born on December 14, 1925, in Shippenville, she was the daughter of the late William and Floy (Sheatz) Slaugenhaupt. She attended school in Shippenville until she was able to get a job to help support her family.
In 1946, she moved to Seattle, Washington, to work as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company. Upon her return to Shippenville, in 1950, she was able to help modernize the family homestead, an accomplishment of which she was very proud. Zena later retired from Bell Telephone Company (now Verizon).
She married Eugene T. Troese on June 2, 1956, and they recently celebrated 58 years of marriage. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, who took an active part in the lives of her children and grandchildren.
Zena was an expert crossword puzzle solver who got many calls daily for help with "the answers." She was an avid gardener of both vegetables and flowers and had a great following of birds and squirrels at her feeders. She enjoyed vintage movies, old TV re-runs, the History Channel, Perry Mason and she loved a good mystery.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are three children; Janine Frazier and her husband, Doug, of Venus, Dana Troese and his wife, Jean, of Clarion, and Diane Troese of Clarion. She is also survived by five grandchildren; Darren Troese and his fiance, Aly Delp, of Clarion, Adam and Mason Groner of Venus, and Zachary and Isabella Troese of Clarion; and one great-grandchild, Thayden Troese.
Also surviving are two brothers; Gib Slaugenhaupt and his wife, Anna, of Clarion, and Wendell Slaugenhaupt and wife, Bonnie, of Fisher, and a special niece Kellie Troese, of Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; William Slaugenhaupt, Guy Sheatz, and Hugh Slaugenhaupt, and four sisters; Lorraine McBride, Winona Finotti, Avonell Bryington, and Helen Greenawalt.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2015. Memorial services will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Father Sam Bungo officiating.
