Wayland Keith Wells, a life-long resident of North Corner Road, Clarion Township, passed away at the family homestead built by his grandfather, on March 23, 2016. He was 90 years of age.
Born on April 30, 1925, in the homestead, he was the son of the late Dorsey and Hazel J. (Rossey) Wells. He graduated from Clarion-Limestone High School in 1943. He served his country as a member of the United States Army Air Corps Company A Signal Warning Battalion A during World War II. He worked as a quality control supervisor for Hanley/ Glen-Gery Brick Company, retiring after 41 years.
Wayland was a member of the Hobah Lodge 276 in Brookville, the Coudersport Consistory, the Zem Zem Shrine, a Life Member of the Clarion County Shrine Club, the Clarion County Historical Society, the National Rifle Association, and American Legion Post 66 in Clarion. He was also a former deacon of the Mount Pleasant Independent Baptist Church.
He was remembered for being a meticulous gardener. The rows were planned to perfection, with no weeds and everything in its place. Wayland enjoyed his John Deere tractor and being outside, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed reading.
In 1982, he married Helen Martin MacKinlay, who survives.
In addition, he is survived by a brother, Llewellyn B. "Wink" Wells and his wife, Kathy, of Corsica. He is also survived by a step-son, David C. MacKinlay, and his wife, Sandy, of Rimersburg, two step-granddaughters, Ashley and Erin MacKinlay, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Betty Wells Foust, and a brother, Donald Grey Wells.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to the Mt. Pleasant Independent Baptist Church, P.O.Box 296, Corsica PA 15829, or the Clarion-Forest VNA, 271 Perkins Rd., Clarion PA 16214 (www.cfvna.org).
Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion, where visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday. A Masonic service will be held at the funeral home at 6:30p.m on Friday. An additional visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant Independent Baptist Church, Route 322 in Corsica. Military honors and funeral services will follow at the church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. James M. Chase officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
