Obituary

Walter Franklin Clutter, Jr., 79, of Shippenville passed away to be with his Lord and Savior and united with his beloved wife Joan on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Clarion Hospital. Walter was born on December 20, 1938 in Callensburg. He was the son of the late Walter F. Sr., and Virginia W. (Whitemore) Clutter. On September 5, 1958 in Callensburg he married Margaret "Joan" Clutter who preceded him in death on July 13, 2017. Walter was a farmer and a father. In 2010, Walter was diagnosed with a rare blood disease that eventually affected his mobility and hindered his beloved farming tasks forcing him to sell his farm. He had previously been an owner operator of a Dairy Farm in Millerstown for 20-plus years, during which time he earned recognition and was awarded "Conservation Farmer of the Year" in 1983. He then moved on to another farm out side of Mechanicsville on a smaller scale raising beef and established a Fencing Business known as WJR Fencing. Shortly after selling his farm in 2012, Walter took up residence at 20 Shelby Lane, Evergreen Estates, in Shippenville. He resided there with his wife, until her death, and his son Roger. He missed the enjoyable family holiday picnics that were held down by his pond in Mechanicsville and holding special events such as corn roasts that he and his family organized and welcomed many church and family members. His children Roger and Kathy were actively involved with his care, along with intermittent help from In Home Solutions therapy and nursing staff, and Caring Heart Companions. The family was very grateful for this additional support. Walter enjoyed the Country living and was of the Protestant in Faith; a Christian having attended along with his wife and family many fundamental bible Churches, Alpha Assemby of God, Zion Baptist Church – where he served as Deacon of the Board, Grace Community Church, Riverhill Evangelical, Clarion Nazarene, and Cornerstone Church, until his health prevented him from getting out much. He looked forward to visits with friends and family, especially long-time friend and former Pastor Rev. "Brother" David Selleck. He enjoyed listening to county gospel music that you would find playing most of the time in his home. He also enjoyed watching old-time TV favorites such as Little House on the Prairie, and The Walton's, and game shows like The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune. Walter is survived by his children, Roger Clutter, of Shippenville, and Kathy Williams and husband Bill, of Clarion; and one grandson, Joshua Williams, of Clarion. In addition he is survived by one sister, Judy "Sis" Holt of Sligo, PA; along with nieces, nephews, and grandnieces. His parents, his wife, a brother, Larry Clutter, and a sister, Sally Clutter Carbaugh preceded Walter in death. Memorial donations may be made to The Leukemia Lymphoma Society, 333 E. Carson Street, Suite 441 Pittsburgh, PA 15219, (https://donate.lls.org/lls/donate); or In-Home Solutions, 985 Route 28, Brookville, PA 15825 (www.wrc.org). Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m on Wednesday and 12-2 p.m. on Thursday to be followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David Selleck officiating. Interment will be in Cedarview Memorial Park.
