Obituary

Sylvan D. "Sy" Walker, age 69, of Day City, Clarion County, passed away after a courageous battle with lymphoma at the McKinley Health Center in Brookville on May 27, 2016. Born on July 19, 1946 in Stonycreek, Somerset County, he was the son of the late Percy and Alma (Shroyer) Walker. After completing high school, he enlisted and served his country in the United States Army. Sy then worked in the boiler plant at Clarion University of Pennsylvania for many years. Sy was an avid hunter and sportsman and life member of the National Rifle Association. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Sy was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. He is survived by three brothers, Ray S. Walker of East Brady, Virgil P. Walker and his wife Pauline of Somerset, and Elvin W. Walker of Bristow, Indiana; and his sister, Faye Walker of Ligonier. He will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews and his extended family and many neighbors and friends. In addition to his parents, Sy was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley M. Duppstadt. Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church, 19801 Rt. 322, Strattanville PA 16258. Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday. An additional visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Asbury United Methodist Church, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Nancy Zahn, pastor, will preside. A graveside service, with military honors being accorded will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Glade Union Cemetery, Rt. 160 & Sulfer Run Rd., Stoneycreek Township, Somerset County, PA.
