Obituary

Russell Clair Ashbaugh of Strattanville passed away peacefully on March 2, 2017 at Clarion Hospital. He was 72 years of age. Born on March 4, 1944 in Knox, he was the son of the late Milford P. and Minnie E. (Wencil) Ashbaugh. He graduated from Keystone High School. On April 3, 1965, he married the former Barbara Fye, who survives. Together, they enjoyed almost 55 years of marriage and raised a family. He worked for Knox Glass, Glacial Minerals as an oiler and rock truck driver, Strattan Homes, and then he retired from Clarion Builders Supply. He enjoyed old cars and in his later years would take pleasure in sitting on the front porch of his house and watching cars drive past. He grew up on a farm and liked tractors and kept up a beautiful garden. He was an avid watcher of cooking shows and created some interesting dishes (peach and rice stuffed meatloaf). He was a dreamer who would read Popular Mechanics and imagine what he could do next. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his daughters, Gina Chikosky and partner Jason Hawk, and Jenniffer Ashbaugh, both of Strattanville; and his two grandchildren, Lauren Chikosky and fiancé Brian Orr, and Béla Jobb. In addition he is survived by his two brothers, Cecil Ashbaugh and wife Lois, Melvin Ashbaugh and wife Cathy; two sisters, Nancy Watkins and husband Robert, and Joselyn Ashbaugh, all of Knox; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Daniel Ashbaugh in 2002; a sister, Yvonne D. Ashbaugh Bartlett and husband Jack Bartlett; a nephew, Dennis Minich; and a great-nephew, Matthew Minich. Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory in Clarion. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, March 11th at the Strattanville United Methodist Church. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Nancy Zahn and Pastor Ray Peters officiating.
