Obituary

Robert M. Hays, age 87, of Chestnut Ridge Dr, Clarion passed away Wednesday, December 2nd, at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler, PA. Born March 2, 1928, at home in the Hays family farmstead in Piney Township, Clarion County, he was the son of the late Fred J. and Iva L. (Miller) Hays. On June 2, 1962 he married the former Edith L. Beck, who survives. He was a very active member of the Clarion Free Methodist Church for over 60 years, and then became a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clarion. He was a farmer, and then worked for the Clarion Post Office for 30 years retiring in 1988. He was a committed husband and father, and was well thought of by everyone. He enjoyed gardening, tractors, trains, bird watching, reading and visiting with family and friends. In addition to his wife, surviving are his daughter, Cinthia K. Hays, and son, R. Colin (Donna) Hays; two grandchildren, Robert P. and Theresa M. Hays, all of Butler; two sisters, Anna Belle Rau of Butler and Arta L. Hain of Harrisburg; an aunt, Kathryn I. Styers, and uncle, Calvin D. Miller, both of Clarion; and several nieces and nephews. His brother, William D. Hays, preceded him in death. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Living Stones Fund at the Clarion First United Methodist Church, 600 Wood Street, Clarion, PA, 16214 (www.fumc-clarion.org); the Clarion-Forest Visiting Nurses Association, 271 Perkins Road, Clarion, PA 16214 (www.cfvna.org); or the Visiting Nurses Association Family of Services - Butler County, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001 (www.vna.com). Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street, in Clarion, where friends and family will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kevin R. Haley, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Clarion, officiating.
