Raymond Eugene Simpson passed away on March 8, 2017 at 5:45 p.m. at home surrounded by his family. Ray was 19 days short of his 90th birthday.
Ray was born in Leeper, Clarion County, the son of the late Lester and Isabelle (McDonald) Simpson, on March 27, 1927.
He was a graduate of Farmington High School Class of 1944. He entered the United States Navy following high school where he attained the rank of Seaman First Class and earned the American Area Campaign and World War II Victory Medals.
Ray previously worked at L&R Decorating and then Sorce, Inc. as a kitchen designer.
Ray was married to the late Marcella Simpson. He then married Jane Hafer, who survives.
Ray was an avid golfer, taking many trips to Myrtle Beach with fellow golfers. He also enjoyed bowling at Ragley's for many years. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the cabin and weekly 500 with his brother, sister-in-law, and wife.
Ray belonged to Clarion American Legion Post 66 for 61 years having served on the Honor Guard for part of that time and he was then a member of the Service Men's Club of Knox for three years.
He is survived by his three children, Linda Woods, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Roger Simpson and wife Barb, of Clarion, and Cindy Kapp and husband Jeff, also of Clarion. He is also survived by two step-sons, Robert Hafer and wife Connie, of York, and Edward Hafer and wife Karen, of Malvern; six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition, he is survived by his brother, Dean Simpson and wife Joann of Miola; along with many nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice, 271 Perkins Road, Clarion PA 16214, (www.cfvna.org). The family would like to thank the VNA Hospice organization, especially Linda, Deb, and Emmy, for their loving-kindness in caring for Ray.
Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Monday with Rev. Randy Evans, Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by Clarion American Legion Post 66 Honor Guard assisted by the Service Men's Club of Knox. Interment will be in the Scotch Hill Cemetery.
