Obituary

Maurice W. "Scotty" Brazier, of Country Springs, Sligo, formerly of Clarion, passed away on March 13, 2019 at the Clarion Hospital following a brief illness. Scotty was born on February 27, 1924 in Croxley Green, England. He was educated at Marlborough Secondary School and The Royal Air Force College in Cranwell, England, graduating on January 13, 1941 and going directly into the Royal Air Force to serve as a pilot and flight engineer with No. 257 Fighter Squadron after basic and flight training. He served in Air Defense Great Britain through the Second World War, and was discharged in 1946. He married Mary Mowatt on June 6, 1945 in Dumfries, Scotland. They had three children, all born in Scotland; Alexander "Sandy" (Jan), Duncan (Marge), and Anne (Chuck) Edwards, who survive him. His wife Mary died in August, 1987. He also has three grandchildren who survive him, Scott (Valerie) Brazier, Carrie (Jon) Human and Kirsty Edwards. Scotty married again in May 1992 to Margaret Pollock, who survives. He is survived in this marriage by Margaret's two daughters, Gwen Hill (Tom) and their children Matt and Christy, and Melanie Lenk (Gene) and their children Jeannie and Megan; along with eleven step-great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his sisters, Nora Purple (Stanley) and Joyce Kempton (Kenneth), both of whom still live in England. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Mary; and a granddaughter, Crystal. After the War, he was a mechanical engineer for the Scottish Forestry Commission. The family immigrated to Canada in 1956. Scotty worked in the Uranium Mines at Elliot Lake, Ontario and later as Mechanical Superintendent for the City of Sudbury, Ontario. In 1964, the family moved to the United States and here he worked for the Caterpillar Tractor Company, Peabody Coal Company in St. Louis, Arch Mineral Mining Company, finally coming to Pennsylvania in 1975 as the equipment manager for C&K Coal Company, retiring in 1987. Scotty was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarion, Clarion Masonic Lodge No. 277, the Experimental Aircraft Association, and the Royal Air Force Association (America). In retirement, he operated The Fix-It Shop, repairing everything under the sun. His motto was, "If man makes it, I can Fix-It, when God makes it, that's a different story." Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation will be held on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. An additional visitation will be held on Monday at the First United Methodist Church of Clarion, 600 Wood Street, Clarion, from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will follow at the church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kevin R. Haley, Rev. Dr. Deryl K. Larsen, Rev. Gene A. Lenk, II, officiating. Interment will be in the Clarion Cemetery.
