Obituary

Mary Edith Stewart, age 78, of Clarion, PA went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, June 2,

2024. Mary was the third of seven children, born to Nancy W. and J. Melvin Stewart, formerly of

Clarion. She was born January 25, 1946 in Wilkinsburg, PA. She graduated from Clairton High

School and Olivet Nazarene College.

Mary had friends all over the world. She had such a special gift of bringing people together. She

was a generous giver and never forgot birthdays.

Mary spent a large part of her adult life teaching, mentoring, and befriending international

students. She spent over 30 years living abroad. She served as a missionary with Operation

Mobilization, managed a Christian bookshop in England, and taught English as a second

language in Portugal and England. Upon returning to the states in December 2005, Mary

continued her work teaching English as a second language.

Mary was an active member of First Baptist Church in Clarion. She loved being a part of the

Choir, Blanket Ministry, Missions, Prayer groups and the Senior group. She was also a member

of the Clarion Community Choir for 15 years.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and sister Debi. She is survived by Bonnie Knox

and her husband, Homer of Parrish, FL; John Stewart of Fresno, CA; Susan Michelsen of

Orlando, FL; Beth Ricci and her husband Mike of Sarasota, FL; Becky Brooks and her husband

Dr. Tim of Clarion, PA. She is also survived by 8 nieces and nephews, 8 great-nieces and

nephews, cousins and many friends.

Family and friends will be received from 10 to 11am on Saturday, June 15 at First Baptist

Church of Clarion, 649 Main Street, Clarion, PA.

A Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow at 11am on Saturday, June 15 at First

Baptist Church with Pastor Jason Hunter officiating. The service will be available online at

fbcclarion.com.

Memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church Missions Fund.

The family would like to thank their First Baptist Church family, the staff at Shippenville

Healthcare and Rehab Center, and Clarion Forest VNA for their love and compassion during

Mary's recent illness.
