Mary E. Bartley, 85, of Clarion passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 25, 2023, at the Clarion Hospital.

Born June 1, 1938, in Miola, she was the first of five children of the late Mae (Reed) Moore and Walter L. (Jack) Moore.

After graduating from North Clarion Schools she moved to the big town of Clarion. She worked at the A & P Store, Phillips Fruit Market, and at Thelma's Modern Diner where she met the love of her life, Russell Bartley.

Mary and Russ were married June 3, 1961, in Clarion. She spent the next 59 years as the loving wife of a truck driver/firefighter until Russ's death in August 2020.

Together, they raised two children: daughter Marion and son Chuck, both of Clarion.

In later years she worked as a tipstaff in the Clarion County Court System. She also volunteered with the Red Cross blood drives. She also worked as a poll worker in the third precinct, Clarion Boro. She bowled many years for the Stehle's Women's Bowling Team at Ragley's Bowl Arena.

In 1993, Mary and Russ welcomed with open arms their daughter-in-law Andrea Ionadi. What followed was what Mary called the best job in the world: being a grandparent.

Chuck and Andrea gave her four grandchildren: granddaughter Olivia of Fairfax, VA: grandsons Michael of Grove City, Philip, a student at Slippery Rock University, and Anthony, a ninth grader at Clarion Area High School. Mary had an unofficial granddaughter in Sarah Bazzel, a student at Pitt.

In addition, Mary is survived by her sisters Sue (Ron) Becker of Lawrenceville and Norma (James) Wotring of New Bethlehem, sister-in-law Sally Moore of Miola, and her brother Tink (Donna) Moore of Leeper, her brother-in law Joe (Marilyn) Bartley of Sligo. And numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Russ, her parents, her brother James Moore, and grandnephew Brady Wotring, and sister-in-law Barbara Bartley.

The family suggests that memorials be made to Clarion Fire & Hose Co. No.1, P.O. Box 226, Clarion, PA 16214.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday from 2-4 at the Goble Funeral Home & Crematory, 330 Wood St, Clarion with services to follow at 4:00 from the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Miola Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the crews of Clarion Hospital Ambulance Service for the care they took in transporting Mary. The staff in the Emergency Dept. of Clarion Hospital, and the staff of the second floor. Also, thank you to Clarion Boro Police for responding to the emergency calls. And a huge thank you to the members of Clarion Fire & Hose Co. No.1 for everything. Last, but not least, thank you to our neighbors and friends who are part of our family. We love you all.
