Obituary

Mrs. Alice Lou Arner of Clarion, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at her home on August 2, 2016. She was 93 years of age. Mrs. Arner was born on November 9, 1922 in Strattanville, the daughter of Frank and Florence (Humphrey) Wilson. She grew up in Strattanville, graduated from Clarion High School and then Clarion State Teacher's College. She taught school in Leechburg, Clarion, and following World War II, she taught in Philadelphia while her husband was attending Pennsylvania School of Optometry. She was married to Dr. James H. Arner in August, 1946. Dr. Arner preceded her in death in 2003. Mrs. Arner was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarion. She served as Chairperson as well as a member of numerous committees. She was also very involved in the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Arner was active in the DAR, serving as regent for the local chapter and also holding offices at the state and national levels. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed participating in the local Garden Club. For over 30 years, Mrs. Arner and her friends had a Monday Morning Study group, meeting in each other's homes. The ladies read and discussed many books on faith, prayer and spiritual growth. It was also a time for wonderful fellowship. Mrs. Arner was most happy when she was with her family. She also enjoyed spending many special moments with her friends. She will be remembered by her gentle, caring nature, sparkling eyes, and smile. Mrs. Arner is survived by her children, James G. Arner and wife Debra, Sharon Huff, and Matthew Arner and wife Cindy; and her grandchildren, James Arner and wife Lauren, Justin Arner and wife Clara, Lauren Huff, and Lindsay McCracken and husband Johnny. Mrs. Arner also had two great-grandchildren, James Benjamin Arner and Korynne McCracken. Additionally, Mrs. Arner is survived by her sister-in-law, Shirley Arner Frycklund and numerous nieces and nephews. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the First United Methodist Church, 600 Wood Street, Clarion PA 16214 (www.fumc-clarion.org). Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where Mrs. Arner's family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday. An additional visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 600 Wood Street in Clarion on Monday. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Rev. Kevin R. Haley, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Clarion Cemetery. Visitation: Goble Funeral Home & Crematory 330 Wood St. Clarion, PA 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., Sunday, August 7, 2016
