Obituary

Joseph A. Weckerly, age 76, of Shippenville, PA, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at his residence. He was born March 18, 1939, in West Freedom, PA. He was the son of the late Samuel and Dorothy (Whitmore) Weckerly. On November 2, 1974, he married Mary M. Blair, who survives along with their four daughters, Dorothy M. Weckerly and fiance Mike "Flakey" McLaine of Strattanville, PA, Kimberly A. Bair and husband Erich Bair of Shippenville, PA, Tammy L. Weckerly and significant other John Glenn of Corsica, PA, and Pamela S. Sommer and husband Joshua Sommer of Shippenville, PA. He enjoyed watching wrestling (WWE), Steelers games, Pirates games, Clarion High School Football games, going on family vacations to the beaches on the ocean and enjoyed being with his grandkids. He was employed by Chartwells as a chef at Clarion University for 35 plus years until retirement this year. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Austin, Brittany, Shawn, Abbagail, Dawn, Summer, Monica, Brendan, Brody, Aubree and Aria. Also surviving a close family friend, Peter Wright, one brother Samuel Weckerly and his wife Peg of Parker, PA; three sisters: Helen Shoup of Parker, PA, Norma Connor and her husband Carroll of New Bethlem, PA Ruth Messenger and her husband Jim of Brookville, PA and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Daryl Weckerly, his two sisters, Lillian Guntrum and Ethyl Callander. Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory where friends and family will be received from 9 am to 11 am on Monday September 28, 2015, to be followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Smith of Clarion Church of the Nazarene officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Shippenville. Memorial donations to be made to the family in care of Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street, Clarion, PA 16214, to help with the funeral expenses.
