Maxwell
Mar 18, 1934 — May 26, 2026
Joan Emma Maxwell, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on May 26, 2026, at the age of 92.
Born on March 18, 1934, in Ross Township, Allegheny County, she lived a life filled with love, creativity, and devotion to her family.
She married W. Wayne Maxwell on November 24, 1955 and he preceded her in death on February 24, 2021.
Joan was a devoted homemaker who created a nurturing and welcoming environment for her family and all who entered her home. Her talents extended beyond her role as a caretaker; she was a talented artist who attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, where she honed her skills and passion for the arts. Her love for reading was well-known, as was her deep interest in history. She found joy in her garden, where she spent many peaceful hours tending to her plants and flowers.
Family was the cornerstone of Joan's life. She adored spending time with her children and family, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Her gentle spirit, wisdom, and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Joan is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Richard and Emma (Schmotzer) Steigerwald; her parents-in-law, Walter and Lucille Maxwell; her devoted husband, Wayne Maxwell; and her granddaughter, Tina Lynn Maxwell.
She is survived by her loving children: Steve (Linda) Maxwell of Tylersburg, Lori (Frank) Teti of Pittsburgh, Diane (Jeff) Weaver of Strattanville, Eileen Maxwell of Milton, DE, and Jeff Maxwell of Clarion. Her legacy continues through her grandson, Jeremy Maxwell of Brookville, and her great-granddaughter, Tina (Colton) Bowser of Sligo. She was also blessed with two great-great-granddaughters, Nevaeh Maxwell and Oaklyn Bowser, both of Sligo. Additionally, she is survived by her brother-in-law, Richard Maxwell of Clarion.
In keeping with her family's wishes, funeral services will be private. Joan will be dearly missed and fondly remembered for her unwavering love and the grace with which she lived her life. May she rest in peace.
A special thank you to Helen and Alana from the Clarion Forest VNA Hospice for their dedicated care and service to Joan.
Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home & Crematory, 330 Wood St, Clarion.
