Obituary

James Patrick Krouse passed away on July 8, 2016 surrounded by his family at his home near Limestone, PA after a lengthy illness. Born in Columbus, Ohio on May 26, 1950, he was the son of John Pershing Krouse and Kathryn Lambert Krouse. Jim married the former Kathleen L. Klinko at the home of the bride in Athens, PA on August 27, 1972. That same summer, Jim graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education and Chemistry. In 1978, he added a Master of Science degree in Education of Exceptional Children from Penn State and topped off his education with a Doctorate in Special Education at the University of Virginia in 1981. The education of students of all abilities and exceptionalities was of paramount importance to Jim throughout his life. His teaching career in Pennsylvania began as a science teacher at Upper Moreland Jr. High School in Montgomery County followed by stints as lead teacher in the Adolescent Unit of Holidaysburg State Hospital near Altoona and itinerant teacher of emotionally disturbed students for all of Intermediate Unit #6. His career in higher education began at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio in 1981 where he was honored with the 1986 Faculty Research Award. Through his varied teaching experiences and ongoing study and research, Jim became an authority on issues in special education, behavior analysis and management and research statistics. He was an author of dozens of published scholarly articles and papers, one of which was cited in a case by the U.S. Supreme Court. In the community, Jim was involved with several agencies and projects and served on many boards. He attended New Rehoboth Presbyterian Church. More than anything else, Jim loved his home and spending time with his family. After his retirement, he enjoyed planting trees, taking care of his land, and building furniture. Jim also enjoyed reading, science, politics, and the music of Bob Dylan. He will be remembered most of all for his quick wit and dry sense of humor.
