Homer Lee Watson, 83, of Clarion died Thursday, September 1, 2016 at UPMC Northwest following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born August 1, 1933 in Ada, Oklahoma, he was the son of Lester and Jewel (Rippey) Watson.
He married the former Mary Lou Fowler on September 16, 1952. She preceded him in death on December 16, 2014.
Mr. Watson moved to Clarion from the Zelienople area in 1955 to work as the editor, then publisher of the Clarion News. He then opened up his own print shop in the same building in 1968. He was a member of the Kiwanis, the Mayfield Country Club, the Clarion County Development Corporation, and the Clarion Hospital Board. He was also a member of the Clarion Methodist Church where he served on various boards and committees.
Homer was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed grouse hunting and loved to tell hunting stories. He was also quite skilled on the water where he enjoyed fishing and boating. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling and loved watching NASCAR racing. He will be most remembered for his witty sense of humor and awesome hugs. He was print shop smart, likeable, kind, honorable, loyal, considerate, and loving. He loved his family and treasured his home on the Clarion River.
Survivors include four children, Terrie (Edward) Millard of Dahlonega, GA; Vicky (Bruce) Campbell of Marianne; Glenn (Amy) Watson of New Bethlehem; Don (Valerie) Watson of Venus; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and his beloved dogs, Dutch and Dixie. He is also survived by three brothers, Gilbert, Wyndle, and Jack Watson and one sister, Patricia Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother at age 102, and his wife.
