Helen M. Smith
Helen Mae Smith of Shippenville passed away at Shippenville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center on July 25, 2018 following a period of declining health. She was 90 years old.
Helen was born on November 27, 1927 in Paint Township, Clarion County, the daughter of the late James Levi and Hazel Elizabeth (Groce) Snyder. After she graduated from high school, she worked for Sylvania making radio tubes during the War.
She was first married to Reid Elder, who has preceded her in death. She then married Wayne H. Smith. Together they founded Wayne Smith Beverage and the Clarion Candy Company and ran those companies together for many years. He preceded her in death in July, 2000.
Helen was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarion where she sang in the Chancel Choir for many years. She was also a member of the Clarion Community Choir. Helen enjoyed bowling and traveling to casinos when she was able.
Helen is survived by her two sons, David Smith and Bruce E. Smith, both of Shippenville; her brothers, Carl R. Snyder (Rita) of Winona Lake, Indiana, Larry E. Snyder of Clarion, and C. Lee Snyder (Deneise) of Apollo; her sisters, Vera Moore (Robert) of West Middlesex, Pennsylvania, E. Jane Bell (Fred), of Garrettsville, Ohio, and Sara I. Snyder, of Clarion; and her grandson, Michael W. Smith (Alaina) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her brothers, Glenn E. and Ivan T. Snyder; her sisters, LaVena Cox and Pearl Snyder; and her granddaughter, Bethany Marie Smith.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Haley, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
