Helen Ream Kime died Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Snyder Memorial in Marienville, Pa.
She was born Helen Virginia Ream, June 17, 1930, in Oakland, Maryland, the daughter of George Ream and Edith Moreland Ream. Helen was predeceased by her parents, her brother, John, a foster brother, Frank and her husband, Clair. She is survived by her son, John, and his wife, Peggy.
Helen attended Ernest Grade School, Indiana High School and graduated in 1952 with a Bachelors of Science in Home Economics from Indiana State Teachers College, now Indiana University of Pennsylvania. While at ISTC she was a founding member of the Kappa Sigma sorority. Helen did additional work at Penn State, the University of Wisconsin and in 1981 earned a Masters of Education from IUP.
Helen worked for the Penn State Extension program as a home economist, where she met Clair Kime, an assistant county agent, whom she married in 1955. She taught home economics at New Wilmington, Sykesville, Brookville and Cranberry and retired from teaching in 1993. Helen was also a graduate assistant at IUP for 1980/1981, co-authored a text book for students with special learning needs and was named the 1982 Home Economics Teacher of the Year for Pennsylvania.
In the community Helen was active in the American Association of University Women, Clarion Civic Club where she served a term as president, First Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder, active in Circle and worked for years with the Salad Luncheon, belonged to the Madison Street Investors, served as a Clarion Township Auditor and belonged to the Garden Club of Clarion County.
Helen was an accredited flower show judge, chaired numerous standard flower shows, was a frequent speaker for garden clubs and served on the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania board as State Scholarship Fund Chairperson. She served two terms as GCFP District VIII Director and was a member of the Judges Council of Erie. Longwood Gardens also honored Helen by asking her to be one of the 100 guest floral arrangers at Longwood as part of their Centennial Celebration.
In addition to gardening, Helen loved sewing, interior design, attending auctions and had a hole in one at Pinecrest Country Club on the 12th hole. For years she and Harriet Frampton were an institution at Hazen flea market, selling Harriets baked goods and Helens antiques.
To spend time with her family, often at the farm, to travel and to entertain friends were the most important things to Helen and the annual Christmas Eve party she and Clair hosted was much enjoyed for 50 years.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory in Clarion. A memorial service for Helen Ream Kime will be held Saturday, October 15, 2016, at 11 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Clarion. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Indiana, Pennsylvania.
