Obituary

Donald Larry Winger, formerly of Clarion, passed away at the Cheswick Rehabilitation and Wellness Center where he had been residing on Friday, December 7, 2018. He was 71 years of age. Larry was born on December 26, 1946 in Oil City, the son of the late Donald J., Jr. and Blanche Mae (Miller) Winger. He graduated from Oil City High School in 1964. Larry attended radio school and Oil City Business College. He then graduated from Clarion University of Pennsylvania receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in education. He was a member of the United States Army Reserves, working as a teletype operator. Larry is survived by his brother, Jack Winger and wife Patty of Shippenville; his sister-in-law, Karen Winger of Tionesta; four nieces and nephews, Von Winger of Fayetteville, NC, Rhonda Schenberg of Oil City, Susan O'Laughlin, of Tionesta, and Gene E. Winger, also of Oil City; and many grand-nieces and -nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gene O. Winger. Larry worked as a truck driver, an office manager and a teacher. He and his father owned Winger's Ice Cream in Oil City and Old Softee. He drove an ice cream truck as well, and later drove for Schwann's. He was active with Boy Scouts, worked as an EMT, and as a fireman. Larry enjoyed listening and making music, playing trombone. Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory in Clarion. Private services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
