Obituary

Clair "Butch" Edwin Reitz, aged 79, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, in Lucinda, PA.

Born on May 16, 1947, in Clarion, PA, Clair lived a life marked by dedication, resilience, and an unwavering love for family and the great outdoors.

A devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, Butch spent his professional career as a Supervisor at C&K Coal Company. His strong work ethic and leadership left a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of working alongside him. Butch's career was not just a job but a testament to his commitment to hard work and excellence.

Outside of his professional life, Butch was an avid outdoorsman with a particular fondness for hunting. He found joy and peace in nature's embrace, always eager to share his love for the woods with friends and family. Butch was also a passionate supporter of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, cheering them on with unwavering loyalty each season. When he wasn't cheering for his favorite teams, Butch enjoyed spending time in his garage and watching classic westerns that mirrored the values of courage and integrity he held dear.

A man of faith, Butch was active in the Gideons and a dedicated participant in Thursday night Bible study, where he fostered a strong sense of community and spiritual growth among his peers.

Butch was preceded in death by his mother, Velma Lauer; sisters, Sara Reitz and Dorthea Lauer; brother, Robert Lauer; numerous aunts and uncles; Thomas Lois Schill, who lovingly raised him; and Rev. Dale Reitz.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Judith Zacherl Reitz of Lucinda who stood by his side throughout life's journey. They would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this June 21. He leaves behind a loving legacy through his daughter, Cheryl Tome and her husband Roy of Sligo, and his son, Rev. Matthew Reitz and his wife Younga of Conway, PA. Clair also leaves his brothers, Michael Lauer of Shippenville and John Lauer of Lucinda, and his sister, Constance Smith and her husband Bill of Lucinda.
