Obituary

Charles Albert Rhoads (85) passed away peacefully and went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday June 2nd, 2025, in Clarion, PA.

Born on February 12, 1940, in Knox, PA. He was the son of the late Karl O Rhoads and Emma Ruth (Carbaugh) Rhoads. He graduated from Keystone High School in 1958.

He enlisted in the Army Reserve from February 13, 1957, until November,1962. He then went on to active duty in the Army from November,1962 serving in Germany during the Vietnam War and completing his service in March 1966. While in the service, he was a cook and an auto repairman. During his time in the Army he received Certificates of Training for Amphibious Warfare Training, Emergency Medical Care, Counterinsurgency/Counterguerrilla Warfare Training, Survival, Evasion and Escape, and Vector Control instruction. In the service he received decorations for Marksmen Expert Rifle M-14 and for Marksmen Carbine.

After serving in the Army, he worked for Pollman Standard until they closed and then went to work for Rescar where he painted and repaired railroad cars until retirement.

Charles was a simple yet kind-hearted man who worked hard throughout his life. He had a passion for NASCAR, antique cars, and enjoyed listening to and watching country music on CMT. A bowl of ice cream was one of his favorite treats—he never turned one down. He especially lit up at the mention of cookies from "The Cookie Lady," as he fondly called her, and he always read the Bible verses she attached to each lid.

Charles was an exceptionally organized man, meticulous about his belongings and particular about keeping things just as he liked them. Quiet by nature, he preferred to listen and observe rather than speak—unless he knew you well. One of his favorite places was his camp in Longview, where he loved to spend time relaxing and enjoying the surroundings. He was often remembered for his signature phrase, "Is that right?" He had an amazing green thumb with plants and flowers, and they always thrived!

Charles frequently expressed deep respect for his brother Von, a retired nurse. He often looked to Von and his wife, Sheri, for guidance and support regarding his care. He truly appreciated the time and effort they devoted to visiting him and helping with his needs.

Charles is survived by two sons, Tony Rhoads of White Oak, Texas: Terry Rhoads and wife Theresa of Shippenville, PA, and a daughter-in-law Mindy (Tracy) Rhoads of Emlenton.
