Charles R. Beveridge, 86, died on November 26, 2017 in the intensive care unit at the Clarion Hospital following a massive heart attack.
"Charlie," as he preferred to be called, was born July 9, 1931 in the Gordontown area of Clarion Township, Clarion County to the late Charles C. and Helen G. (Detrick) Beveridge. As a young boy, Charlie spent a lot of time at the home of his grand parents, Howard, Jr. and Esther (Morrison) Detrick. Charlie dreamed of becoming a gunner on a plane in the war.
He attended a one-room school through the 8th grade, then started working in the coal mines with his Pap. On November 21, 1950, he married the former C. Evelyn Reasor of Oil City. She preceded him in death on June 13, 2008.
Charlie worked for several different coal companies including Stahlman's, Doverspike's, and Beveridge Brothers - founded by Charlie and his brother Bill. Charlie ran dragline, bulldozer and was a welder. He later worked for Electrolux Vacuum Company and Singer as a repairman in Oil City. It was while there that he attended Venango Vo-Tech and obtained his GED. Although Charlie worked in other fields, his heart was always in the coal mines; he said his blood ran black.
He spent most of his life on Rehoboth Church Road where he enjoyed cloud watching, sketching and painting.
Charlie is survived by his daughters, Charletta Rupert (Randy) of Sarasota, FL; Kathi Williams (Denny Corbett) of Petrolia; Rita Boocks (Jerry), of Shippenville; and Sue Beveridge (Ron Kemmer) of Summerville with whom Charlie resided for the past several years. He has six surviving grand children, Monica Cussins (Mike), David Rupert (Tara), Jody Rouse, Becky Hines (Dale), Joe Rouse (Amy), and Staci Boocks; and eight great-grandchildren, McKenzie Dolmovich, Malea Cussins, Maggi Jobb, Gabriel Rupert, Anela Shanafelt, Lilly Wert, Alia Rupert, Leila Wert, Christopher Campbell, and Ava Rouse.
