Obituary – Lois Jean Trunk





Mrs. Lois Jean Trunk, formerly of Stoney Lonesome Road , Clarion, died Nov. 14, 2009, at the home of her daughter in Pittsburgh , PA , following complications surrounding Alzheimer’s Disease.



Born January 8, 1925, in Lees Summit, MO, she was the daughter of Louis John and Edith Margaret Hagberg Brown.



In 1948, she was married to Francis LeMoyne Trunk who preceded her in death in 2006.



Lois enjoyed a full life. She was Salutatorian of the 1942 class of Raytown High School. As a young adult, she was employed at General Mills in Kansas City , MO. She earned her pilot’s license in 1945 and was a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol and a member of the 'Ninety-Nines' flying club in Kansas City. In 1947 she flew to Clarion, where she met her future husband, LeMoyne Trunk. They were married on June 26, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri and settled in Clarion where they raised their six children. Lois enjoyed Clarion, her country home, and her nights out for bridge club.



Lois is a 1968 graduate of Clarion State College majoring in Elementary Education and Special Education. She also received her Masters Degree at Clarion State College. Lois taught for 11 years at Clarion Area High School, retiring in 1979. Following her retirement, she enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening and sewing. She was known around the neighborhood for her beautiful flower gardens, abundant blueberries, and delicious Christmas cookies. Her ten grandchildren and one great-grandson brought her much joy.



Lois was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion, the PSEA, NEA, and Kappa Delta Pi (Honorary Education Fraternity).



She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Kathleen Chantrey and her husband, David, of Burlington, NC, Mrs. Debra Simpson and her husband, Paul, of Fredericksburg, VA, Mrs. Mary Jean O’Neill and her husband, Daniel, of Pittsburgh, PA, and Mrs. Laura Zacherl and her husband, Robert, of Baltimore, MD; 10 grandchildren, Michelle Chantrey-Canada and husband Lee, Troy Chantrey and wife Cameron; Elizabeth Simpson, Laura Simpson, Kurtis O’Neill, Cassandra O’Neill, Kathryn Spindler-Foulke and husband Joshua, Charles LeMoyne Spindler, Jennifer Zacherl and Andrew Zacherl; and one great-grandson, Bryce Canada.



Mrs. Trunk is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Jorene Lett and her husband, Turner, of Florida; and a number of nieces and nephews.



In addition to her parents and husband, Lois was preceded in death by two sons, Gary Anthony in 2003 and Timothy LeMoyne in 1972; and a brother, Louis John (Jay) Brown.



Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Goble Funeral Home & Crematory, 330 Wood St. Clarion, PA.



A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tues. at Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion with Fr. Monty Sayers officiating.



Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Clarion, PA.



The family suggests memorials be made to the Clarion Free Library; Medi Home Hospice, 103 Rhoda Avenue, Leechburg, PA 15656; or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
