In Loving Memory
David E. Lewis
10/23/1959 - 8/20/2009
...
David E. Lewis, age 49 of Shippenville lost his battle with cancer and died Thursday, 3:30 AM at the Clarion Hospital.

David is survived by his best friend and wife, Margaret Baumcratz Lewis of Shippenville, three children, Anjunell of Riverdale, MD, Sarah and David, both of Shippenville. Also surviving are Dave’s parents, Jack and Donna Lewis of Shippenville and his sister, Susie and her husband Dave Wojtalik of Waterford, PA. He is also survived by close friends, Margery Bigley and Dorothy Ausel of Shippenville. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Violet and Frank Davis and his paternal grandparents, Leroy and Florence Lewis.

Dave was born and raised in Clarion and graduated from Clarion Area High School in 1978. He then joined and worked as a mechanic for the Army in Fort Hood, TX. Dave and his family moved back to Clarion in 1982 when he worked as a mechanic and later as a custodian for the Clarion Elementary School. After a long time love of flying, Dave began his flight career by obtaining his Private and Commercial pilot licenses and eventually his Instructor’s license from the Clarion County Airport. Dave finally achieved his goal of being a full time pilot by joking PrimeAir of St. Mary’s, PA and in January of 1999 he advanced his career with NetJets Aviation, based in Columbus, Ohio, as a Gulfstream G200 I.O.E. Caption.

Everyone who knew Dave knew him to be an honest man and a dependable friend. He was a hard worker who worked his way from being a mechanic and custodian to being a respected pilot. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and flying. Dave set his goals against all odds, conquered them, and loved his life.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 at the Goble Funeral Home & Crematory. A Christian Wake service will be held on Sunday at the funeral home at 6:45 PM. Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 AM from St. Joseph’s Church in Lucinda.

Donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Church, Clarion Forest V.N.A, or Clarion County Airport.

David was the best of us. I truly admired the determination with which he pursued and achieved his goals - particularly that of obtaining all of his pilot licenses. When I moved to Clarion, David was working where I taught school. It was clear immediately that he would be a friend. Though sporadic over the past few years, I always enjoyed seeing David outside his home when I drove past and would stop to catch up with him. There was NEVER a conversation without his pride in his family showing. I always knew what Angel, Sarah and David were up to. Dad was very proud of his children and Marge. I'll miss David. There is an emptiness in my heart. But, I know that he is flying in Heaven.

Dear Marge & Family, My most deepest sympathy to you and your family for the loss of Dave. Dave & I were good friends back in high school, but lost touch over the years. Dave was a true gem and we had many lively conversations back than. When I came to CAHS in 9th grade from IC School, he was one of the few that made me fit right in immediately. When you say honest and dependable friendship, that was Dave! I'm sure he will be sadly missed, but keep his memories in your hearts for he will always be with you in spirit. Please know that my prayers and thoughts are with you. Jan

My deepest condolences go out to the entire family. I don't have much contact with this part of my family and when David and I realized we were related on accident in art class in the 6th grade everything changed. I felt like I had a piece of my family, that I never had an opportunity to have. Stay strong, Dave is looking down on all of you and will always be your guardian angel. With so much love, Elya, Jesse, and little Willow

Dave trained me as a new F/O and my first job in the United States. What a gentleman and superb at his job. I truly and without word of lie have not met a nicer guy in my time on this planet. Words cannot bring him back or ease his family's grief but I hope in some way his wife and kids can draw a tiny peice of respite from the fact that he was a wonderful human being that not many people have the honor of being related to. I have never met any of them but my thoughts are with them now. Please find strength and my deepest deepest sympanthy.

When I arrived at Clarion Elementary School as a fifth grade teacher, I first met Dave.He was a friendly, kind and laid back individual. We became friends from the the very start. One of my fondest memories is when Dave, his son, David, myself and my son, James, went to a Steeler Fan Fest in 1992. The four of us had a great time. before i left Clarion, Dave had given my a picure he had taken of a Stealth Bomber while flying over Vermont. I still have that picture hanging in my office today and it will reamin there for the remainder of career. Dave was a great family man who dearly loved his kids and wife. I will miss him.

I knew of and finally met Dave in Captain Upgrade Training at Netjets in the Spring of 2000. I knew of him through his Cousin I've known since previous employer. Dave and I immediately clicked as friends and have had many hilarious conversations about our profession and life in general. We didn't fly the same airplane and probably good thing as we would have laughed way too much! We would have made the passengers wonder what was going on! I have the fondest memories of Dave and echo the same sentiments as many above have stated. I just heard of this news earlier today. Marge and Family, I offer my sincerest condolences for a fine man and friend and Father. He is already missed. My thoughts are with you. Dave is keeping an eye on us all. Keep well.

I was very saddened to hear of Dave's passing. Dave and I shared some good times as we went through NetJets initial airplane training together in 2003. As others who have known him would attest, Dave was truly a great individual and one of the most genuine, hard working and caring people I have met. Dave's personal achievement in becoming a pilot for NetJets is a true testament of one who strived to do his personal best in everything he did. He will be known to many as a “Very Good Man." He will be missed big-time. My sincere condolences to his family and those close to him. Dan Lane

I'm looking at photos of us on a ferry flight at three in the morning. We have a rubber chicken. If you knew Dave, you knew his deep love for family. Thank You for sharing him with us!
